I’m thrilled you have taken the time to check out all that Learn Today With Mama J has to offer! My hope is help you learn about strategies to use with your child and build a community of parents that confidently navigates their child’s education!
I’m Jacquelyn and I began Learn Today With Mama J to put my experience to use in a way that can help several families. I began over a decade ago as an elementary school teacher. After years of working with children with challenging behaviors in the classroom, I went back to school to earn my master’s degree in School Counseling. I remained a school counselor until becoming a mother to my daughter. During my time at home with her, I learned a great deal about myself in ways I didn’t think possible. Even though I loved being home with her, I missed the connection and ability to help families. This is how the concept Learn Today With Mama J was created.
As a school counselor, I had the opportunity to work with students and their families. I had the pleasure of helping many families navigate the school system in relation to any academic or behavioral concerns. This included who to reach out to in regard to the concern, how to get the most out of meetings, strategies to use at home, and how to take steps outside of the school.
While working with families, I realized my understanding of the school system was not common knowledge for many parents. This is something I want to change for you! My job, as a counselor, was assist both parents and educators navigating student concerns and develop a plan to resolve the issue.
That is what I am here to do for you now, with Learn Today With Mama J! These courses and tips are based on the same strategies and advice I gave while working in the schools. I just have the opportunity to share them on a larger scale now!
Whether it be through a course, consultation call, or simple tips on social media platforms, Learn Today With Mama J is here to empower you and provide support. No longer will you walk into a meeting and feel confused by acronyms or feel unsure of where to start. You will know who to contact, how to get your child what they need, and how to support your child at home.
You will also be able to address multiple behavioral concerns at home with strategies and skills that can be supported in school. These strategies are ones I’ve used for many years with success with varying age groups and backgrounds. You will have the ability to make them your own for your child which in turn helps their overall educational experience.
With all of that said, I am not perfect; I am not an expert and will never claim to be. I just have extensive experience with children of varying exceptionalities, family backgrounds, learning needs, and varying communities and I’d like to share this knowledge with you!
All I’d like to do is bridge the gap at the table between school and home, so there is more teamwork to help your family and your child thrive in the school setting you have chosen!
